Remembrance Day 2013

Well, we're home from our fifth and final visit to Gettysburg in 2013. It has been a busy year.
George, Mary, Eve, John, and I, followed our usual Remembrance Day weekend schedule. Friday shopping, Saturday wreath ceremonies at monuments, and Sunday flag ceremony at cemetery. In between we did some eating and sightseeing.

On Saturday morning, more of our friends from the Society of Civil War Surgeons joined us at the Camp Letterman ceremony. It has been my hope that we could have a large turnout for this part of our Remembrance Day schedule.

The remainder of our morning was spent at the 14th's monuments at McPherson's Ridge, The Railroad Cut, and Culp's Hill.

Afterwards, we worked our way to Frederick Md, and visited the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, before settling down for dinner at Brewer's Alley.

Sunday morning welcomed us with the coldest weather that I have experienced in a Gettysburg November. 21 windy degrees at the cemetery forced George to abbreviate his words at the 14th grave sites. We then hurried over to the visitors center to thaw out.

There was a surprise waiting for us at the center. Jeff Shaara was there signing his books. Even though I have been a Kindle user for his last two, Eve reminded me that I shouldn't pass up the opportunity for an autographed copy. So I purchased his most recent one.

After that it was back to the hotel for check out and then we headed home.

This ends our 2013 schedule. See you in '14.
